Splice is a puzzle game developed by Cipher Prime Studios, released in 2012 for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Set within an abstract microbial environment, each level presents a "strand" — a cluster of cells arranged as a binary tree — that must be reorganized into a target configuration within a limited number of moves called splices. Players rearrange, mutate, and resequence cells, learning through experimentation how individual cells interact with one another. The game's over 75 puzzles are split between introductory sequences that establish core mechanics and more demanding epilogue stages. An additional layer of challenge comes from "angelic solutions," which reward completing levels in fewer splices than the allotted maximum. Cipher Prime's fourth title, Splice won Best Puzzle Game at the 2011 Intel Level Up contest. The experience is accompanied by a minimalist piano soundtrack and subdued visual design.
