Star Sweep is a 1997 arcade puzzle game developed by Japanese studio Axela, released exclusively in Japan. Its core mechanics resemble those of the Puzzle League series but incorporate a falling-piece structure closer to Tetris, with blocks descending from the top of the screen. Each piece appears in one of three colors — red, yellow, or blue — and features a star on at least one end, sometimes both. Clearing blocks requires matching stars between same-colored pieces, and chaining multiple clearances together earns combo bonuses referred to as links. A stack that reaches the top of the playfield triggers a three-second countdown before the game ends. The single-player story mode places the player on an island, advancing through a roster of up to nine increasingly difficult opponents. Separate time-limited challenge activities task players with achieving high scores, maximizing links, enduring as long as possible, or clearing the field within a tight window.
