Released in 1995 by LucasArts for PC (Windows and DOS), Mac, and PlayStation, Star Wars: Rebel Assault II – The Hidden Empire is an arcade shooter and the follow-up to the original Rebel Assault. Unlike its predecessor, the game departs from the storyline of the films, presenting an original narrative set around the Dreighton Nebula — a region steeped in legend due to the mysterious vanishing of spacecraft in the area. The player controls Rebel pilot Rookie One, who is sent to investigate a series of unexplained disappearances of Rebel ships near Dreighton. Responding to a distress signal within the nebula, Rookie One uncovers an Imperial presence, and as the mission unfolds, evidence mounts that the Empire bears responsibility for at least some of the recent incidents. The game builds its story around this escalating confrontation with Imperial forces in an uncharted and dangerous region of space.
