State of Emergency 2 is a third-person shooter developed by DC Studios and published by SouthPeak Interactive, released in 2006 for PlayStation 2. A sequel to the original State of Emergency, the game is set ten years after the events of its predecessor and builds on the foundation of the first title with additional game modes and an upgraded engine. The project has a notable development history: it was originally in production at VIS Entertainment under Rockstar Games before SouthPeak Interactive acquired the title and handed development to DC Studios. Known as State of Emergency Revenge in Japan, the game represents a continuation of the series' chaotic, crowd-based action gameplay within an expanded framework. Its PC release expanded its availability beyond the PlayStation 2 platform where the franchise had previously been established.
