Steel Rain X is a hybrid shoot-em-up combining shooter, strategy, and RPG elements, released in 2016 for Xbox One. At its core is a high-velocity scrolling shooter in which the player commands two wings that can be arranged into different formations and configured with various fire modes to engage massive enemy fleets. Beyond the moment-to-moment combat, the game incorporates broader strategic and progression systems: players liberate planets, establish colonies, construct buildings, and invest in research to unlock new technologies. An RPG layer adds active and passive skills, item crafting, and experience-based character advancement, with currency and XP earned through missions feeding into increasingly powerful upgrades.
