Super Smash Bros. is a crossover platform fighter developed by HAL Laboratory and released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, later made available on Wii. The first entry in its series, it brings together characters from multiple Nintendo franchises in fast-paced, item-filled bouts across open stages. Unlike traditional fighting games, the objective is not to drain an opponent's health bar but to launch them off the edge of the stage entirely. Each character has a damage percentage that climbs as they absorb hits — the higher the percentage, the more susceptible they become to being knocked away. Matches reward both offensive momentum and stage awareness, with various items and power-ups appearing throughout fights to further influence the outcome. The game supports multiple players, accommodating the repeated, elimination-based encounters central to its format.
