Tetris 99 is a competitive online puzzle game developed by Arika for Nintendo Switch, released in 2019. It combines the classic Tetris formula with a battle royale structure, pitting 99 players against one another simultaneously in real time. Players arrange falling tetrominoes in the traditional manner while also managing an additional strategic layer: attacks generated through line clears can be directed at other competitors, and incoming garbage lines from opponents must be dealt with at the same time. The last player with an active board wins. Choosing how to target opponents — whether focusing on those already in danger, those attacking the player, or other strategic groupings — forms the central decision-making element that distinguishes the mode from standard Tetris. The game is exclusive to Nintendo Switch and requires an online connection to play its primary mode.
