The Cub is a 2024 platformer from Demagog Studios, released across PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Set after a Great Ecological Catastrophe that drove the ultra-wealthy to Mars and left Earth to be reclaimed by mutated wildlife and flora, the game follows a child who developed immunity to the hostile planet. When Martian survivors return for reconnaissance and spot the child, a relentless pursuit begins across crumbling brutalist tower blocks, abandoned genetics labs, depleted mines, and overgrown battlefields. Gameplay draws from classic SEGA titles of the 1990s — The Jungle Book, Aladdin, The Lion King — combining fast parkour movement with environmental puzzles and tense cat-and-mouse chase sequences. The art style is modeled on late-1990s animated films and Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal, rendered in meticulous hand-drawn visuals. A custom in-world radio station, Radio Nostalgia From Mars, provides the soundtrack alongside survivor monologues that fill in the story of humanity's collapse.
After the Great Ecological Catastrophe, the ultrarich flee to Mars and leave the rest to perish. But among them a small child who developed immunity to the hostile planet remains. Decades pass and those on Mars venture back to Earth to do recon. When they spot a small human child, The Cub, they immediately try to capture it. This sets off a journey of escape, exploration and discovery through the urban ruins of humanity coupled with frantic cat and mouse chases.
