The Guise is a dark-fantasy action platformer with RPG and metroidvania elements, developed by Rasul Mono and released in 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game follows Ogden, an orphan who defies the rules of his orphanage, slips into a forbidden room, and puts on a cursed mask that permanently transforms him into a monster. Stripped of any conventional weaponry, Ogden must rely entirely on feral abilities — including ceiling-walking, acid spits, and bile bombs — to navigate a hostile world of dying villages, dark forests, dungeons, and demon-infested valleys. Defeating bosses unlocks new powers by absorbing their skills, while ordinary enemies drop eyeballs that serve as currency for upgrading abilities at a character called the Eye Collector. Hidden passages and concealed rooms offer secrets that deepen the game's lore, and a small number of allies, primarily children, provide what little support the world has to offer.
