Released in 2007 by Valve for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, The Orange Box is a compilation package containing five distinct titles across the shooter and puzzle genres. It includes Half-Life 2 and its two episodic follow-ups, Episode One and Episode Two, continuing the series' first-person action across an extended narrative arc. Also bundled is Team Fortress 2, a class-based multiplayer shooter in which two competing teams select from a roster of distinct character classes and battle across various objective-driven maps. The fifth title is Portal, a first-person puzzle game that combines spatial problem-solving with action and adventure elements, tasking players with navigating test chambers using a portal-generating device. Together the five games represent a cross-section of Valve's work up to that point, spanning single-player storytelling, cooperative episodes, competitive multiplayer, and standalone puzzle design.
