The Sims 2: Apartment Pets is a simulator developed by Full Fat for the Nintendo DS, released in 2008. Set in an apartment building rather than a suburban neighborhood, the game places a Sim character among a cast of neighbors and their various animals. Players can adopt and care for their own pets, choosing from familiar companions like cats and dogs as well as more exotic options including snakes, birds, and rabbits. A central gameplay element is managing an on-site pet spa, where the player earns in-game Simoleons by providing appropriate treatments to the pets belonging to other residents, keeping both animals and owners satisfied. The combination of pet ownership, neighbor interactions, and spa management creates a light strategic layer alongside the core simulation. The game's tone emphasizes humor and the unpredictable nature of living alongside a diverse collection of animals in a shared residential setting.
The game begins with your Uncle Bill going on an expedition and leaving you to take care of the apartment. You can also take care of the pets already in the apartment of the beginning of the game. Soon after the game starts, the janitor will tell you about a lost puppy, and give it to you until the owner is found. This pet and more are ones that owners and various people will drop off, asking for you to take care of the pet for a few days.
