Released in 2005 for PlayStation 2, The Sword of Etheria is an action RPG with hack-and-slash combat developed and published by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo. The game takes place in an alternate world where humans, gods, and supernatural warriors called Katenas share existence. Katenas serve as divine envoys and possess the ability to encase themselves in powerful suits of armor known as Lexes. Three of the most formidable Katenas, selected by the gods themselves, form a group collectively called Oz. The gods governing this world resemble figures from Greek mythology — omnipotent yet self-serving and hungry for power. Their strength derives from consuming light, a process that plunges regions of the world into prolonged darkness. The central conflict revolves around the gods' ambition to annihilate humanity and exhaust the planet's fundamental energy source, Etheria.
