The Void is a first-person RPG and adventure game developed by Ice-Pick Lodge, released in 2008 for PC. The player takes the role of a newly dead soul who awakens in a grey limbo called the Void, a decaying realm where Color — the fundamental essence of life — is desperately scarce. The world is divided into 29 chambers populated by enigmatic Sisters, each embodying a pair of Colors, and by grotesque Brothers who demand obedience in exchange for guidance. Managing Color is the game's central challenge: it serves as the sole resource, and every drop spent reshapes both the player and the environment. Color can be grown in gardens, hunted, or mined depending on the chamber. All meaningful actions are performed by drawing sigils on screen, with outcomes varying by shape and hue chosen. Accumulating different Colors carries consequences — hoarding Red increases aggression in predators — requiring careful balance as the player pursues a possible escape from the Void's cyclical existence.

When a person’s soul is extinguished, for a brief flickering moment it passes The Void—a grey limbo, breathed back to life by scarce droplets of Color scattered across it. Ravenous, monstrous Brothers beckon the soul to preserve every bit of it; enticing, sly Sisters beg to be fed. The whole Void, inhabited also by a multitude of weird and sometimes scary creatures, changes with every droplet of Color used, making every action you take have repercussions across the whole world. But perhaps there is another way to use the Color. The way to break out of the never-ending cycle of the Void. Nourishing Color in gardens and fighting the Void’s creatures, unlocking the Sisters’ hearts and taking on their Brothers, the player gets the chance to find it… and achieve ultimate transcendence.
