Released in 2008 for PC by Dejobaan Games, The Wonderful End of the World is an indie puzzle game set against an apocalyptic backdrop: a mythological fish-headed demon is consuming the Earth, and the player controls an absorbent puppet tasked with salvaging as much of civilization as possible before time runs out. The puppet begins capable of picking up only the smallest items — a glass marble forms its head, jellybeans serve as hands — while rats and golden retrievers pose genuine threats. As objects are collected, the puppet grows, eventually reaching a scale large enough to engulf fire engines and entire buildings. The game spans 12 distinct environments, including a candy store with a blueberry river and a surrealist library where words have escaped their books, with over a thousand collectible items spread across them. Three modes — Timed, Timeless, and Exploration — along with 10 achievements round out the experience.
