Theatre of War is a real-time tactical strategy game developed by 1C Company, released in 2006 for PC and Linux, covering major World War II engagements from 1939 to 1945. Players command combined-arms task forces comprising infantry regiments, tanks, APCs, field guns, and mortars, with the option to call in artillery and air support during engagements. The game draws its scenarios directly from historical records and maps, offering over 40 missions spread across seven campaigns, with more than 30 battlefields reconstructed from actual wartime cartography. A strong emphasis on authenticity runs throughout: the roster includes over 150 vehicles, more than 100 small-arms types, and around 200 uniform variants, all derived from military documentation. RPG-style progression allows individual soldiers to accumulate experience, earn promotions, and receive decorations, adding a personnel management dimension to the tactical gameplay.
