Developed by Ubisoft Shanghai and released in 2003 for Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PlayStation 2, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 is a tactical shooter that places players in command of the elite counter-terrorism unit Rainbow. While the console version shares mission locations and layouts with its PC counterpart, it features an entirely distinct storyline. Rainbow is deployed to South America following a string of terrorist strikes against American interests, initially attributed to Islamic extremists with Saudi backing. The investigation gradually reveals that the true architect of the attacks is Juan Crespo, the newly elected President of Venezuela, who engineered the crisis himself to ride an anti-terror platform to power. Crespo's broader scheme involves discrediting Saudi Arabia, severing Venezuelan oil exports to the United States, and then exploiting the resulting energy crisis by selling oil to America through black-market channels at severely inflated prices.
"When a terrorist plot threatens to tilt the balance of peace between the United States and Saudi Arabia, team Rainbow is the only answer. Execute your missions with deadly force and precise tactics in order to protect the innocent and ensure peace."
