Unlimited SaGa is a role-playing game developed by Square Product Development Division 2 and released for PlayStation 2 in 2002, continuing the non-linear tradition of the SaGa series. Players choose from eight distinct protagonists at the outset, each represented by a different flower, with the central narrative following Laura, a thirty-year-old widow and former pirate. Story progression and events shift depending on which character is selected and what choices are made along the way. The game's core mechanic is the REEL system, a spinning slot-machine interface that governs nearly every action, from landing attacks in combat to disarming traps — functioning similarly to dice mechanics in tabletop RPGs or the Judgment Ring found in Shadow Hearts. Exploration is open-ended, allowing players to visit optional areas freely and encounter monsters at will. Many puzzles offer multiple solutions, with characters' individual skills — such as Swimming to cross bodies of water — determining which approaches are available.
