A PlayStation 4 exclusive interactive drama and survival horror game developed by Supermassive Games and released in 2015, Until Dawn places eight characters in a dangerous scenario where every player decision carries potentially far-reaching consequences. The central mechanic, called the Butterfly Effect, connects choices across the game's roughly nine-hour runtime in ways that are not always immediately apparent — an item discovered early, for instance, may become critical during a later chase sequence in the same location. All eight characters can survive or all can die, and the combination of survivors at the conclusion shapes one of hundreds of possible endings. Gameplay blends exploration, quick-time events, and clue gathering, with discovered evidence accumulating across multiple playthroughs to gradually illuminate the mysteries of Blackwood. A strict auto-save system prevents rewinding individual decisions, making restarts the only means of altering outcomes. The game draws frequent comparisons to Quantic Dream titles such as Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.
When a trip to a remote cabin leaves eight friends stranded on a mountainside, sinister events make them suspect they're not alone... Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, step into the quaking boots of each of the eight terrified characters as you search for clues to the deranged killer's identity. By making life or death decisions using the sophisticated "butterfly effect" system, everything you do will drastically alter the course of the story - and the fate of each character.
