Vampire Rain: Altered Species is a 2008 PlayStation 3 port of the original Vampire Rain, developed by Artoon. A third-person stealth shooter, it draws comparisons to the Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid series, blending stealth mechanics with platforming, exploration, and combat elements. Much of the gameplay revolves around using darkness as cover to remain undetected throughout missions, a necessity reinforced by the overwhelming strength of enemy Nightwalkers and the limited effectiveness of close-quarters weapons for much of the game. Players have access to a range of firearms — including a handgun, submachine gun, assault rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle, and anti-armor rifle — as well as a UV Knife. Traps offer an efficient means of eliminating threats, and taking down a Prime Walker, the master of a Nightwalker group, can neutralize large numbers of enemies simultaneously.
