A tactical first-person shooter developed by Illusion Softworks and released in 2005 for PC, Vietcong 2 is the follow-up to the million-selling Vietcong series and centers on the 1968 Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War. The narrative, drawn from firsthand accounts of Special Forces and Infantry veterans who served in Hue, was shaped by established authors to ground the experience in historical authenticity. Players take the role of a US Army captain initially assigned to escort a war correspondent covering the traditional Tet New Year celebrations during a ceasefire. As the surprise offensive erupts, the mission transforms into full-scale urban combat across 14 distinct locations, tracing events from the early festivities inside the US compound through brutal street fighting and ultimately to an assault aimed at retaking the Imperial Palace and the city of Hue itself.
