Warlords Battlecry is a 2000 real-time strategy game developed by Strategic Studies Group for PC, set in the fantasy world established by the long-running Warlords series. Players build and command armies drawn from multiple distinct races, managing resources and directing tactical combat across a series of campaign and skirmish scenarios. A defining feature is the persistent hero system, in which a player-created hero character gains experience, levels up, and carries stat improvements and items between missions, lending the game a notable RPG dimension uncommon in the genre at the time. Heroes can be assigned to different classes, each influencing playstyle and the types of units available. The combination of base-building strategy, varied factions with unique unit rosters, and an ongoing character progression loop positioned Warlords Battlecry as a hybrid title that drew audiences from both the RTS and fantasy RPG genres.
