Wings of Wor, released in Japan under the title Gynoug, is a horizontal scrolling shooter developed by Masaya and originally published by NCS Corporation for the Sega Genesis in 1991. Players control a winged angelic warrior navigating side-scrolling stages filled with grotesque biological and demonic enemies. The game is notable for its dark, organic visual aesthetic, blending fantasy and horror imagery across its levels and boss encounters. Combat revolves around collecting power-ups to enhance the player's arsenal of projectile attacks and sub-weapons. Originally launched across North America, Europe, and Japan in 1991, the game later received a re-release on the Wii Virtual Console in Japan in 2008, and has since become available on modern platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, introducing the classic arcade experience to contemporary audiences.
In an era between the Middle Ages and the early modern period, the demons have grown in power by feeding on the evil ambitions of the people. Led by a being known as The Destroyer they plan their attack. The angel Wor stands up for the survival of the entire tribe, and heads to Iccus to prevent the spread of the evil spirit. Take control of Wor and shoot down every grotesque enemy in your path. Defeat the demon boss at the end of each area to advance onward.
