Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is an action game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and released for PlayStation 2 in 2003. A sequel to the original Zone of the Enders, it places players in control of the Orbital Frame mech Jehuty, piloted this time by Dingo Egret, a former BAHRAM soldier whose refusal to rejoin the organization's leader Nohman results in a near-fatal confrontation. Rescued by an agent who binds his body to Jehuty, Dingo is compelled to fight against BAHRAM to survive. Set two years after the first game, the sequel shifts emphasis decisively toward combat, equipping Jehuty with an expanded arsenal and removing the civilian-protection objectives of the original. Director Shuyo Murata, appointed by producer Hideo Kojima, deliberately addressed criticism of the predecessor. Critics responded favorably to the enhanced action and improved visuals, though the game's short length drew some negative attention. Commercial performance remained modest despite the positive reception.
