Ape Escape 2 is a platform adventure developed by SCE Japan Studio and released in 2002 for PlayStation 2, later made available on PlayStation 4. A sequel to the original Ape Escape, it tasks players with tracking down and capturing escaped apes scattered across a variety of levels, all while working to thwart the villainous Specter's plan for world domination. The core tool for capturing apes is a catching net, supplemented by a range of additional gadgets: an Ape Radar for locating nearby targets, a baseball bat for knocking monkeys unconscious, an RC Car for running them down and collecting objects, and a magnet for manipulating environmental elements. The apes themselves are individualized, each carrying a distinct name and behavioral trait — some remain stationary, others flee at speed, and others fight back with projectiles — adding variety to the pursuit across each level.
