Asheron's Call 2: Fallen Kings is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Turbine and released for Windows on November 22, 2002. A direct sequel to the original Asheron's Call, it operated on a monthly subscription model. The game's servers were first shut down in December 2005 after subscriber numbers fell below a level Turbine could sustain commercially. In December 2012, the title was briefly relaunched in beta form, made available to active subscribers of the original Asheron's Call. The game's history came to a definitive close on January 31, 2017, when Turbine announced it was exiting MMO development and transferring its account systems and server operations to a newly formed studio, Standing Stone Games. Because Turbine retained the intellectual property rights to the Asheron's Call franchise, servers for both games were taken permanently offline at that time.
