Developed by Virtuos and released in 2007, Beowulf: The Game is a hack-and-slash action title for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable, and PC, based on Robert Zemeckis' film adaptation of the Old English poem. Players take on the role of the legendary warrior Beowulf, engaging in melee combat across battles drawn from the film's narrative. The cast from the movie reprised their roles to provide voice work, lending the game a degree of continuity with its source material. Published by Ubisoft following an announcement at its Ubidays event in Paris in May 2007, the game launched in the United States on November 13 of that year. The title blends the beat-'em-up and adventure genres, centering gameplay on large-scale combat encounters rooted in the mythological story of the Geatish hero.
