Championship Manager 5 is a football management simulator developed by Beautiful Game Studios, released in 2005 for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 — the first time the series appeared on Sony's console. It marks the franchise's first entry following the departure of original developer Sports Interactive. To support statistical authenticity, Beautiful Game Studios engaged a dedicated agency responsible solely for compiling player data. The underlying game engine was rebuilt to process match events in real time with greater realism. Tactical depth is provided through an overhauled training system, expanded match tactics options that affect on-pitch decisions, and an Action Zones feature that maps player influence across different areas of the pitch. Together these systems aim to give the simulation a more credible and granular representation of football management than its predecessors.
