Dance Dance Revolution is a rhythm and dance game developed by Konami's Bemani division, first released in Japanese arcades in 1998 before reaching North America and Europe in 1999. Available on arcade platforms and PlayStation, it is widely credited as the pioneering title in the rhythm-dance genre. Players stand on a physical dance platform and use their feet to step on colored directional arrows in response to on-screen and musical cues, with performance judged by how accurately each step is timed to the presented patterns. Achieving a passing score unlocks additional song selections. The game's music library combines original tracks produced by Konami's in-house artists with licensed material spanning a wide range of genres. The series has seen dozens of arcade releases and hundreds of home console releases worldwide, and its influence directly inspired comparable titles such as Pump It Up and In the Groove.
