Devil Kings is a hack-and-slash title developed by Capcom and released for PlayStation 2 in 2005. Set in a fictionalized version of feudal Japan, it follows a conflict against the Devil King, a ruler possessed by a demonic soul who has unleashed a vast army upon the world. His forces include Lady Butterfly, the Red Minotaur, and assassins Scorpio and Venus, each serving as major antagonists across the game's six playable characters, all of whom have individual storylines presented through CG and anime cutscenes. Gameplay resembles the mass-battle format popularized by the Dynasty Warriors series, pitting players against large waves of enemies in arcade-style combat. The anachronistic arsenal mixes historical weapons such as swords and spears with modern firearms including chain guns and shotguns. Magic spells are available for clearing dense enemy groups. Two primary modes are offered: Conquest, which covers the central narrative, and Free Mode, allowing replay of previously completed stages.
