Die Hard: Vendetta is a first-person shooter developed by Bits Studios, released in 2002 for Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PlayStation 2. Set in Los Angeles, the game follows John McClane, now a detective with the Century City Police Department, as he confronts Piet Gruber — son of his longtime nemesis Hans Gruber — who has stolen artwork from the Townsend Art Museum and kidnapped McClane's daughter Lucy, herself a fellow CCPD officer. While the game centers on conventional shooter mechanics, it incorporates two notable systems. Stealth Mode lets McClane move quietly through environments and grab enemies to use as hostages, making nonlethal approaches viable alongside direct combat. Hero Time, earned by rescuing hostages and completing heroic acts, temporarily slows the action in a manner similar to the bullet-time mechanic found in Max Payne, giving McClane a brief combat advantage in tense situations.
