Drakengard is an action role-playing game developed by Cavia and released in 2003 for PlayStation 2. Set in a world held together by four mystical seals, the story centers on Caim, a prince fighting for the Union against an invading Empire. When Caim is mortally wounded in battle, he forges a life-binding pact with a captured Red Dragon, tying their souls together at a permanent cost in exchange for survival. His sister Furiae, a living embodiment of one of the seals, becomes central to the conflict as the Empire threatens to unravel the world itself. Gameplay unfolds across three distinct modes. Aerial combat has Caim riding the dragon against airborne enemies, using both concentrated and multi-target fireball attacks. Ground combat, presented in third-person across open environments, involves collecting and leveling up a variety of weapons through repeated use in battle. A third isometric event combat mode serves primarily to advance the narrative.
