Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends is an expanded edition of Dynasty Warriors 8, developed by Koei Tecmo and released in 2013 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The game is a hack-and-slash title in which players control powerful warriors cutting down large numbers of enemies across battles drawn from the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. A notable addition to Story Mode is the inclusion of Lu Bu as a fully playable character with his own narrative arc. The expansion also introduces new hypothetical scenarios to existing battles, additional playable characters, new weapon types, and expanded character progression and speedrun mechanics. Beyond Story Mode, a reworked Ambition Mode and a brand-new Challenge Mode broaden the range of ways to engage with the Dynasty Warriors 8 framework.
