Earth and Beyond is a science fiction MMORPG developed by Westwood Studios and released in 2002 for PC. Set in a future where humanity has fractured into three distinct races spread across the solar system, the game places players within a universe shaped by competing civilizations and their conflicting interests. The Terrans govern Earth through dominant trade corporations, the Progen are genetically engineered warriors and laborers who have settled Mars, and the Jenquai are a knowledge-seeking, exploration-focused people inhabiting space stations near Jupiter's moons. Each race controls its own region of space and brings a distinct culture and set of priorities to the setting. Players navigate this interstellar environment, engaging with the social, economic, and political tensions that define life among these three factions in a persistent online world.
The discovery of an ancient stargate, initially concealed by the Jenquai and later revealed by a Terran spy, triggered the Gate War: a nine-year conflict among the three races. The war concluded with a ceasefire and an agreement to share control of the Gate. During this time, the Terran corporation InfinitiCorp secretly reverse-engineered the technology, resulting in the creation of the Infinitigate. Fifty years later, the three races have expanded into multiple star systems. While peace persists, underlying distrust remains, and the possibility of renewed conflict continues to influence relations.
