Released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles – Ring of Fates is an action role-playing game developed by Square Enix Product Development Division 2 and set as a prequel to the original Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. The story follows Yuri and Chelinka, fraternal twins whose peaceful village life is shattered when an ancient evil force arrives and destroys their family's happiness. In the aftermath, Yuri dedicates himself to training so he can confront the threat when it returns. The two siblings eventually set out together on a quest to reunite with their companions, seek vengeance for what was taken from their family, and restore their world. The game combines RPG progression with adventure elements suited to the DS hardware, continuing the Crystal Chronicles subseries in a narrative that predates the events of its predecessor.
