Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the third major expansion to Square Enix's massively multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV Online, released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Mac, and Xbox Series X|S. The expansion transports the Warrior of Light to a parallel dimension called the First, one of thirteen reflections of the original world known as the Source. The First is in crisis, steadily being overwhelmed by an encroaching Flood of Light that has already consumed most of its landmass. The primary setting is Norvrandt, the sole surviving region still holding out against this catastrophe, and one that mirrors the familiar geography of Eorzea from the base game. Players navigate this imperiled world as they work to understand and ultimately confront the forces driving the Flood of Light toward total annihilation.
Ala Mhigo is at last free from imperial rule, but that liberty may prove fleeting as the Empire moves to both reclaim this bloodied nation and subjugate all of Eorzea.
