Released in 2001 for PC and PlayStation 2, Frank Herbert's Dune is a puzzle-adventure game developed by Widescreen Games, set within the science fiction universe of Herbert's celebrated novel. The story takes place in the year 10191, amid a violent conflict between House Atreides and House Harkonnen over dominion of the desert planet Arrakis, known as Dune. The planet's sole valuable resource, the Spice, grants its possessors extended life and heightened abilities, making control of Arrakis a prize worth any cost. With the Emperor's backing, Baron Harkonnen orchestrates a devastating assault on the Atreides, leaving only two survivors: Jessica, concubine to the Duke, and Paul, his son and heir. The game places players in this world, navigating the aftermath of that massacre through the perspectives of these two central figures.
