Released in 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a shooter-adventure developed by Threewave Software in which players take the role of a new recruit joining the iconic Ghostbusters team as Manhattan faces another wave of supernatural infestation. Armed with an assortment of specialized equipment and gadgets, the player hunts, battles, and wrangles a range of paranormal entities across New York City. The game features the voices of the original film cast — Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson — alongside Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray, and William Atherton, marking the first time the core cast had reunited in over two decades. The screenplay was co-written by Aykroyd and Ramis, who crafted an original storyline for the project. Several ghost concepts developed for the films but never used on screen appear here for the first time.
