Grand Theft Auto Advance is an action-adventure game developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Rockstar Games for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, making it the only entry in the series not produced by a Rockstar studio. Gameplay unfolds from a top-down perspective reminiscent of the original Grand Theft Auto and its sequel, though the title also incorporates elements from the series' later 3D entries, including vehicle-based side missions such as Vigilante and Paramedic runs, a heads-up display, and a broader weapon selection. A notable mechanical addition over earlier top-down games in the franchise is the ability for vehicles to flip over. Set in an open urban environment, players engage in missions involving driving, combat, and various criminal activities across Liberty City. The game received a PEGI 16+ rating and an M rating from the Australian Classification Board, both firsts for the series.
