Haze is a first-person shooter developed by Free Radical Design and published by Ubisoft, released exclusively for PlayStation 3 in May 2008 after planned Xbox 360 and Windows versions were cancelled. Set in a dystopian future dominated by the Mantel Corporation, the game follows Shane Carpenter, a 25-year-old Mantel soldier caught up in a three-day conflict against a rebel faction called The Promise Hand, led by Gabriel "Skin Coat" Merino. Central to the game's premise is Nectar, a drug officially described as a nutritional supplement that enhances soldiers' combat performance while producing hallucinogenic effects — users perceive a sanitized, painless version of the battlefield rather than its true brutality. As Carpenter witnesses the drug's consequences firsthand, the narrative pivots and he defects to join The Promise Hand against his former employers. The Nectar mechanic shapes gameplay on both sides of this conflict.
