Higurashi When They Cry is a Japanese murder mystery visual novel developed by 07th Expansion, originally released in 2009 and available on PC, iOS, and Android. The story centers on a close-knit group of young friends living in the isolated rural village of Hinamizawa, where a series of disturbing and inexplicable events unfolds around them. As a visual novel, the experience is predominantly text-driven, with minimal interactive input required from the player beyond reading dialogue and narrative passages. The original release featured no voice acting. Between narrative sections, the game offers intermission periods during which players can access a collection of Tips — supplementary documents and notes that provide additional context and information.
