Kinect Sports Rivals is a motion-controlled sports game developed by Rare and released in 2014 for Xbox One. A continuation of the Kinect Sports franchise, it uses the Xbox One's Kinect sensor to track players' physical movements and facial expressions with greater precision than its predecessors. The game features a selection of sports events, some returning from earlier entries in the series and others newly introduced, each redesigned to take advantage of the hardware's capabilities. A central element is ongoing competitive play, allowing players to challenge friends and rivals repeatedly. As part of the experience, Kinect scans the player to create a personalized in-game avatar called a Champion, tying the physical likeness of the player directly to their on-screen representation.
