Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is a role-playing game developed by Square Enix 1st Production Department and released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. It serves as the seventh entry in the Kingdom Hearts series, functioning as a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts coded, while also continuing threads from the epilogue of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Built to take advantage of the 3DS hardware, the game's visuals approach the quality of the series' PlayStation 2 titles and incorporate the system's stereoscopic 3D technology. Rather than using the 3D effect to project elements outward toward the player, the presentation is designed to create a sense of depth inward into the screen, an effect particularly prominent during sequences involving high falls and long aerial distances.
King Mickey and Yen Sid prepare for an impending threat by putting Sora and Riku through the Mark of Mastery exam. Sora and Riku are sent into the Sleeping Worlds, where they will face enemies and allies that have never been seen before. If they can successfully complete the task they are given, they will be deemed true Keyblade Masters.
