Kingdom Hearts II is an action role-playing game developed by Square Enix Product Development Division 1 and released in 2005 for PlayStation 2, with later availability on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It serves as the primary mainline sequel to the original 2002 collaboration between Disney Interactive and Square. The game is structured around a series of discrete areas called "worlds," each drawn from a distinct Disney property or created specifically for the Kingdom Hearts series. Players move through these worlds in sequence, engaging in the combat and exploration that define the series. The blend of original settings with locations adapted from Disney films remains central to the experience, continuing the franchise's established formula of combining the two creative universes within an action-driven RPG framework.
One year after the events of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Sora, Donald and Goofy awaken in Twilight Town. Bent on the quest to find Riku and King Mickey Mouse, the three begin their journey. However, they soon discover that while they have been asleep, the Heartless are back. Not only that, but new enemies also showed up during their absence. Sora, Donald and Goofy set off on a quest to rid the world of the Heartless once more, uncovering the many secrets that linger about Ansem and the mysterious Organization XIII.
