Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is a 3D fighting game developed by Midway, released in 2002 for Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PlayStation 2. Marking the franchise's debut on sixth-generation hardware, the game introduced a significantly overhauled combat engine built around a stance system in which each fighter can switch between multiple fighting styles, including an offensive stance and a fatality stance. Environments are rendered in full 3D with some degree of interactivity. The roster blends returning series veterans — among them Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, and Johnny Cage — with newcomers such as Moloch and Quan Chi. Each character carries their own set of unique fatalities, maintaining a signature element of the series. The combination of the redesigned mechanics and the generational hardware upgrade represented a substantial departure from the earlier entries in the long-running Mortal Kombat series.
