NBA 2K2 is a basketball simulation developed by Visual Concepts and published by Sega Sports, released in October 2001. The third entry in the NBA 2K series, it launched initially on the Sega Dreamcast before being ported to PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, and Xbox in 2002, marking the first multiplatform release in the franchise and the final NBA 2K title to appear on Sega's console. Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson serves as the cover athlete. The game builds on its predecessor, NBA 2K1, by retaining existing street court venues while expanding the roster of outdoor locations to include recognizable real-world sites such as Mosswood, Fonde Rec Center, and Venice Beach. This emphasis on street basketball alongside traditional NBA gameplay gives the title a broader range of court environments than earlier entries in the series.
