Need for Speed: Underground 2 is a street racing game developed by EA Black Box and released in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and PC. Set in the open city of Bayview, it follows directly from the events of the original Need for Speed: Underground. The story begins with the protagonist ambushed by an unknown driver with a distinctive scythe tattoo, who deliberately destroys his Skyline in what is staged to look like an accident. The player must then rebuild from scratch within Bayview's underground racing scene. The game emphasizes extensive vehicle customization alongside competitive street racing, carrying forward the tuner culture aesthetic of its predecessor. The open-world structure of Bayview allows players to explore the city and seek out races rather than progressing through a strictly linear event list.
