Need for Speed: Nitro

Developed by EA Montreal, Need for Speed: Nitro is the fourteenth entry in the long-running Need for Speed franchise and a notable one for being the only installment in the series not released on PC. Published by Electronic Arts in 2009, this arcade racing game was built specifically for the Wii, with EA Montreal drawing on its prior experience with Nintendo hardware to shape the experience. The game emphasizes fast-paced, accessible racing in keeping with the arcade tradition of the series, prioritizing speed and excitement over simulation. It was announced alongside Need for Speed: Shift and Need for Speed: World as part of a broader 2009 push for the franchise. A separate Nintendo DS version was developed by Firebrand Games, and an expanded edition of that version, Need for Speed: Nitro-X, was later released through DSiWare in 2010.
