Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia is a role-playing adventure developed by HAL Laboratory and released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS, with later availability on Wii U. The second entry in the Pokémon Ranger series, it takes place in the Almia Region, where the player begins as a Student Ranger and works toward earning the rank of Top Ranger through a series of missions and quests. Gameplay centers on capturing wild Pokémon using a Capture Styler, which grows more powerful and gains additional energy as the player progresses. Captured Pokémon contribute their abilities to overcome obstacles and puzzles, though they depart after their ability is used. One exception is the Partner Pokémon, a permanent companion throughout the adventure. The game blends exploration with mission-based objectives as the player assists people, Pokémon, and the natural environment of Almia.
