Red Steel 2 is a first-person action shooter developed by Ubisoft Paris and released in 2010 exclusively for the Wii. The game casts the player as an unnamed warrior — the last surviving member of the Kusagari Clan — stranded in a desert setting after a criminal organization called the Jackals, led by a figure named Payne, steals his katana and leaves him for dead. Escaping captivity, the Hero rescues his former swordsmaster Jian from a Jackals execution, borrowing Jian's blade while working to reclaim his own weapon. Combat blends swordplay with gunplay, and the game makes direct use of the Wii MotionPlus accessory to translate physical gestures into on-screen sword strikes. The result is a genre hybrid that situates its Western desert aesthetic alongside samurai-influenced melee mechanics, distinguishing it from conventional console shooters of its era.
