Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is an action shooter developed by Tose and released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011. Drawing its stages from remastered environments originally found in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, the game tasks players with eliminating as many enemies as possible before a countdown timer expires. Eight playable characters are available, each capable of engaging enemies through gunfire, explosives, and melee combat. The core loop is built around high-pressure score chasing within timed stages filled with waves of hostile enemies. Both solo and cooperative play are supported, with two-player online co-op allowing participants from anywhere to tackle stages together. The title is essentially an expanded standalone version of the bonus Mercenaries mode familiar to fans of the mainline series, structured here as a dedicated portable release.
